Better learn up on Kyle Reid now before you miss him in 2015.
Here’s why he topped my local albums of the year list.

Here’s why he topped my local albums of the year list.
I interviewed a 94-year-old vet about his time flying alongside real-life “Unbroken” star Louis Zamperini.
There he is front right, back when he was in basic training in Enid. Check out the story here.
Last week started with a bummer.
I worked on a news story about VZD’s closing and also a features story about a few patrons’ favorite memories.
I’m calling it early. “Whiplash” is the best movie of the year.
One of our nicest looking issues to date.
It’s currently on newsstands all throughout the metro or right here.
Let’s just say I wasn’t the biggest fan of this Jason Reitman drama.
Review is here.
I review the kid flicks so the grown ups don’t have to.
Here’s the cover of the latest issue of LOOKatOKC and my team’s cover story about the Plaza District Festival.
I helped out model the hell out of this back pack last week for the Keep it Local crew.
My buddy Travis Tindell shot and cut this. What a wizard.
One of my portraits of Kristen Vails made it onto the back cover of the March 15 issue of This Land. You can find the article here and see why Vails is the Queen of the Plaza District. Also, she’s quite an artist.
I was invited to tell a story at the debut “Evening of Nostalgia” event last month. The resulting audio just got posted. The theme was beginnings, and I told a story about my triple knee surgery. My friend Jonathan Fowler talked about getting his first tattoo. Guthrie folk outfit Stranded by the Station played some tunes and Samantha Crain performed a set that included some new songs. My favorite is right here.
The latest installment of the “Evening of Nostalgia” series is Monday. Here are the details.
I’ve got a bit of good news for anyone listening out there in Facebook Land. As of today, I’ve officially accepted an offer to become the entertainment editor at The Oklahoman. In addition to that, I’ll be heading LOOKatOKC.
It’s hard to believe Mr. George Lang will not be working side by side with me, but I can’t thank him enough for his mentoring, wacky phone calls and prolonged eye contact. Wish us both luck on our new adventures. I can’t wait to get started on March 17.
Opportunities like this always seem to sneak up on people. I would have said you were crazy if you told me this would happen two weeks ago. George has done a bevy of quality reporting in the past 10 years and his role with Static is a big reason why I picked up a camera in the first place.
Again, wish us luck, and I’ll see you guys in the papers.
I’ve been getting into the holiday spirit this year whether I like it or not. If I’m not hearing about the latest Blackwatch Christmas album then I’m taking cover photos for LOOKatOKC’s holiday issue. Colourmusic recently recruited friends and family to record a holiday record, and we gathered them all in one place for an awkward group portrait.
It wasn’t as easy as it sounds though. We had a blackout right before the shoot. George Lang wrote an amusing column about the mishap and filled the latest Look with a great story about the hard work that goes into making Oklahoma the Christmas Music Capitol of the World.
Oh, and don’t forget to listen to and order yourself a copy of Colourmusic’s holiday album. It’ll put some jingle in your bells. I guarantee it.
Also, a few more stills from the shoot are hiding here.
Pick up a copy of the latest Look@OKC if you want even more proof I should spend more time behind the camera instead of in front of it. Jonathan Sutton and George Lang whipped up some nice words about the history of the VDub Sessions and our big party coming up on Saturday.
Ferris O’Brien and I will be handing out autographed copies of this photo all night.
Here’s the issue if you’d care to read it.
A Polaroid I took of Seattle-based band Night Beats has surfaced on their recent tour poster. I’m glad I could be part of the band’s weird, rowdy and rambunctious radness.
Two of my photos made the front cover of the latest issue of Look At OKC.
Next stop Rolling Stone magazine. Or Mad Magazine. Whoever calls first.
The influential people over at Rolling Stone’s website chose Okie songstress Samantha Crain as an Artist to Watch today. My video I shot of her and Daniel Foulks accompanied the feature. Not a bad way to get this Monday going. We shot this in downtown Oklahoma City last December on a chilly evening. I’m throwing on an extra layer just thinking about it.
H/T to OklahomaRock.com for bringing this to my attention.
Check out this great video Lamar + Nik created for Samantha earlier this year.
